“Period poverty” refers to a lack of access to necessary menstrual health products which reportedly affects 1 in 5 women. As an agency working to address the needs of individuals and families struggling to meet their most basic needs, we recognize that period poverty exists wherever poverty exists. We understand that period poverty is a significant barrier for all of our clients.
FOTP/CMC believes it is important to treat menstruation as a basic health practice while working to provide the necessary products girls, women and all menstruating individuals need in order to address this basic element of health care. The Period Project is a direct response to this critical need by providing available menstrual products at no cost. Through this effort, FOTP/CMC deepens its commitment to those we serve, our greater community, and to increasing the accessibility to basic health needs.
FOTP/CMC offers period products to anyone in need at no cost at our Administrative Offices (430 Pittston Avenue in Scranton).
We’re educating the community about the reality of period poverty and steps that can be taken to address it through our marketing, social media and community engagement.
We’re advocating for change. This includes change in access and affordability of period products within our local community, school systems and prisons as well as change at the state and federal levels.
